Our youth came back from Estes Park Colorado and the Fly Convention with a glowing testimony from the week. God was at work and our youth were touched by the gospel. Pray for them. Pray that the spiritual ‘mountain top’ would not be a fleeting experience of God’s presence but more a reminder He is continually present as His character is omnipresent.
It is upon us to take the truth of God’s ever-presence and make it real to our lives each day. King David was famously called by God as ‘a man after my own heart’ (Acts 13:22). We learn how David practiced spiritual disciplines that kept the ever-present Lord close to his heart. Here’s one of his disciplines:
“I have set the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” (Psalm 16:8)
In other words, David made himself aware that he lived in the audience of God. He lived his life reminding himself God was looking down on him and was present in his day knowing every act he did, hearing every word he spoke, and knowing is every thought. The result of consciously living his day in the presence of the Lord allowed him the confident claim and assurance: ‘I will not be shaken’.
Basically David chose to live his life in partnership with God and believed if God was with him, he was in the best hands and there was nothing to worry about.
Going to retreats and conventions where thousands of people set themselves apart from the world to join in the worship and instruction of Christ can offer breakthrough times as the Lord reaches us in the deep places of our hearts. We’ve seen these breakthroughs each year as our Ebenezer youth as well as adults go to the Fly Convention. But, as the man after God own heart shares, one can ‘set the Lord always before me’ living in a very close and dynamic way with the Lord everyday and in our home communities. Each day ‘set the Lord’ before you in bible reading. Each day ‘set the Lord always before you’ in prayer as you talk to Him through the day. May we learn from King David the confident and assured life as we set the Lord always before us.
