Sunday, September 9th is Rally Sunday with Sunday School starting at 9:15 (children only this first Sunday with Adult study starting September 16th) and worship at 10:30. As you know, Rally Sunday is our annual kick-off to the church year where many of the church programs such as Sunday School, Youth Group, Confirmation, Bible Study, and other ministries are introduced or ready to begin again.
The last two years we conducted our Rally Sunday Worship outdoors around the bell tower. Many enjoyed this outdoor service but this year we will be worshiping in the sanctuary as we normally do. Let us know if you miss having an outdoor service as there is always various ideas and comments to consider. Following the service, a BBQ and potluck meal is planned. Hamburgers and hot dogs being grilled and if you can bring a dish to share there will be a great meal for all. Weather permitting, tables will be set up outside to make for a picnic atmosphere with the parish education committee planning games for our children. A brochure has been created to explain church ministries so new attenders can get a clearer picture of what Ebenezer has to offer their families and where they can fit in.
To make the most of Rally Sunday, together we need to become an invitation voice inviting our neighbors and friends to join us in this special service. Please make a concerted effort to personally invite a friend, relative, neighbor. Think of someone who is new(er) in town who doesn’t have a church home as yet and invite them to Rally Sunday. Or invite an Ebenezer member who has gotten out of the habit of attending church. Make a real effort to make people feel welcomed and wanted as you invite them.
Message Series and Small Groups
Starting Sunday, September 16th, I will be preaching a new 6 week message series entitled, “Trust and Obey”. As I preach on various biblical passages calling us to Trust Christ and Obey Christ, our plan is to create a number of smalls groups to gather during the week to dig deeper into the message through the study questions I provide. I’d like to invite you to join in this small group opportunity. We have a sign up sheet at the Welcome Center to indicate your interest and the day that works best for you. Some may be willing to open their homes as a ‘host home’ where the study takes place. We encourage and welcome an offer to host a small group bible study. Our church facility is also a great gathering place for small group study and may be the best place for group study of families with young children. If you are open to leading the study, which is simply facilitating the discussion of the study questions, I would encourage you to indicate that desire as you sign up. I hope many of you can find the time to commit to this 6 week period of small group study. It’s always brings great value to come together in the study of God’s Word with our Christian family.
