Entering Jerusalem As The Savior
- Jesus Presents Himself as Savior
“As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus … was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”” (Mark 10:46–47)
““What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.”” (Mark 10:51)
- Jesus Welcomed as Savior
“‘Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me’ … The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. They brought the donkey and the colt, placed their cloaks on them, and Jesus sat on them.” (Matthew 21:2,6,7)
“Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!” “Hosanna in the highest!”” (Mark 11:8–10)
“When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?”” (Matthew 21:10)
“So the Pharisees said to one another, “See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him!”” (John 12:19)
“Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”” (Luke 19:39–40)
III. Jesus Confronts Us as Savior
“Jesus is the only person I’ve ever seen or ever heard of or ever known who was unbelievably humble and not at all modest” (Tim Keller)
““I tell you the truth,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”” (John 8:58)
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” (John 14:3)
“He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.” (Luke 10:18)
“My house will be called a house of prayer,” (Matthew 21:13)
- Jesus: Crown Me or Kill Me
“He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.” (Matthew 12:30)
“So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” (Revelation 3:16)
- Jesus Offers Himself to Us
“Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take it; this is my body.” Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, and they all drank from it. “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many,” he said to them.” (Mark 14:22–24)
