“Good People Need Jesus”

“So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.”

(Matthew 27:5)

“Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.” (Luke 10:37)

“‘What you are about to do, do quickly,’ Jesus told him,” (John 13:27)

“You must make your choice: either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon; or you can fall at his  feet and call him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.” (C.S. Lewis)

  1. Many Believe Heaven Is Within Our Reach

“Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”” (Matthew 19:16)

  1. Jesus Says Heaven Is Out of Our Reach

“Jesus replied, “ ‘Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’”” (Mt 19:18–19)

““All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”” (Matthew 19:20)

“Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”” (Matthew 19:21)

“When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.” (Matthew 19:22)

III. We Must Be Remade To Go To Heaven

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

  1. Heaven Is A Gift To Receive Rather Than Something To Earn

“Then Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?”” (Matthew 19:23–25)

“Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible …. ”  (Matthew 19:26)

“Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”” (Matthew 19:26)

““For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—” (Ephesians 2:8)
