“An Obligated Life”
- My Obligation To Others
“Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”” (Luke 20:22)
“But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, “Show me a denarius. Whose likeness and inscription does it have?” They said, “Caesar’s.” He said to them, “Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” (Luke 20:23–25 ESV)
“From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.” (Luke 12:48)
“The man who had received the five talents brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.’ “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant!” (Matthew 25:20–21)

- Pay
“He said to them, “Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s.” (Luke 20:25)
- Participate
“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.” (Romans 13:1–2)
“Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.” (Romans 13:7)
- Pray
“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,” (1 Timothy 2:1–3)
III. Render To God – Myself
““Show me a denarius. Whose likeness and inscription does it have?” They said, “Caesar’s.” He said to them, “Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”” (Luke 20:24–25)
When Jesus said these words, “This was the very first theory of limited government in the history of the world. Up until now, even the Jews has this view that the governor, government, the king, the rulers had divine authority and could not be questioned by anybody …. Jesus says, “Don’t you dare give any government that …. give Caesar his money but not ultimate allegiance.” (Timothy Keller)
“a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.” (Ecclesiastes 3:8)
